About this blog

This is my personal blog which I began in February 2001. I called it The Obvious? when I wrote anonymously and chose the name to reflect the fact I have to overcome my inhibitions about stating the obvious!

For those who go walking....

For those who go walking....
David Weinberger and Jonathan Peterson have been talking about a sense of place in the internet.

More and more I personally derive a sense of place in the internet through a narrative, a thread, making temporary, contextual sense of a sea of information. This is why, for me, blogging is so powerful. It's what Iwas getting at in my earlier blog about walking and conversations.

The path which blogging threads through the "flat plains" of the internet is very similar to the "narrative" of a good walk. All good walks have a beginning middle and an end. They weave a story which leads you on, anticipating the next discovery of a view or a natural wonder. They balance periods of struggle with periods of serenity, they can be done alone or with others.

Most importantly they are a path threaded through the wilderness which through shape and perspective can make temporary sense of the landscape.
